Hawke came to prominence as president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions with a reputation for smothering industrial disputes. His sell out of Australian workers was taken to a new heights, when as A.L.P. Prime Minister; he helped engineer the 1983 trade union Accord that strangled trade union militancy. He earned the nickname as the fireman (for hosing down industrial disputes) and the “mild colonial boy” because of his service to big business.
Hawke died in 2019 a multi-millionaire. He was a long term defender of the U.S. and The U.S.-Australian alliance. It comes as no surprise to learn that he was a regular informer to CIA officials working in the U.S.embassy.
