For PAYG taxpayers, small business people and welfare recipients, there is a deep-seated fear of making a mistake with reporting earnings because very soon the Australian Taxation Office  will come knocking, with threatening letters, garnisheeing  of wages or visits from aggressive debt collection agencies.

 Successive governments have set in place punitive measures to extract every cent of taxation from the people because they are the source of most of the revenue that the “commonwealth” needs. Over 40% of the revenue collected comes from individual taxpayers. Then there is GST, fuel excise and alcohol excises just to add a further burden for people.

For years the tax affairs of the foreign monopolies have been hidden from the Australian people by privacy provisions. But a number of intrepid journalists and academics have prised open the honey pot for a glimpse of the tax rorts that have occurred over decades. Now lots of Australians are indignant at the massive tax-dodging antics of  the foreign monopolies that rule the economic life of Australia.

Michael West is a former Fairfax journalist who carries out extensive investigative analysis of tax dodgers. His latest expose The Top Forty Tax Dodgers reveals the real bludgers in Australia 2020.There are no surprises as to who are the worst offenders.

The energy and mining companies (as other articles in Eurekajournal  have shown)

Exxon Mobil $33.1 billion – four years income- 0 % tax payable

Energy Australia $30.2 billion  – four years income- 0 % tax payable

Santos $14 billion – four years income- 0 % tax payable

Peabody (Coal) $12.2 billion – four years income- 0 % tax payable

The energy and mining companies’ peak body, the Mineral Council is always bleating about how much tax they are paying. Lies, lies and more damned lies.

But construction , car and banking companies are also guilty;

Fletcher Building $11.7 billion  – four years income- 0 % tax payable

Ford $11.1 billion – four years income- 0 % tax payable

BNP Paribas  $ 9.6 billion -four years income- 0 % tax payable

The other area of tax theft, concerns the internet giants Google , Amazon, Ebay and others. These companies “offshore” their income, i.e. the sales processing of goods and services bought and paid for by people in Australia are sent offshore, by-passing of Australian tax liability .

West’s solutions only tinker with the problem. There is a total surrender of sovereignty to the foreign monopolies. They run riot with  Australia’s resources. We are left with nothing but holes in the ground, budgetary  constraint, lack of services and amenities from  supine governments. This is nothing less than looting carried out by men in suits with computers.

 A peoples’ government would ensure that any company operating here would do for the maximum benefit of the people. Paying real taxes and revenues, employing people here,   creating economic, social and intellectual value for the Australian people.

  A people’s government would exert strict supervision and hold companies liable for the problems they cause, environmental, economic or social.
