I’ve watched and listened all week and especially today to the beliefs, arguments and opinions regarding this day. What I have to say maybe misconstrued and unappreciated by the many but I hope to reach the few real Warriors for change,, both black and white. I am against a “change the date campaign”. I am against it for the following reasons:
If you want to direct the force and energy of your opponents give them a cause to fight for that they believe will advance them yet in reality it will only set them back. I am totally unwilling to be manipulated in this manner. The change the date campaign is a gammon trick by the Powers that be to direct this massive people movement and its energy into a dead end.
Forget the emotions and think intelligently for once in your life. Changing the date won’t change shit. Yeah I said it and you can quote me all you like. Remember the “Sorry Campaign” around the stolen generation human rights abuses that occurred. They said sorry and now they’re stealing more of our children than ever. Where are the marches and campaigns to stop this. Where are our Facebook Warriors with their once a year photos of resistance. I can’t see you
We must fight and direct out massive movement towards real change. Stop the stealing of our children, the theft and destruction of our seas and lands. The desecration of our ancient sacred sites. The exploitative raping of our natural resources. The unjustifiable murder of our people in custody and even in their beds. Remember Yundemue and Dave Gundy. And we must stand every day in every way against the system that abuses and exploits all of us, of every race, religion and sex. This is the true struggle. This is the real Warriors way. Anyone can warrior up for a day, anyone can empathize and support for a day. Take that shallow superficial contribution to the struggle and shove it you know where. Because that’s all it is is bullshit. We need to change the horrific circumstances we face daily. Not a date. Evil doesn’t happen to us on the 26th of January nor did it on that date in 1788. It occurs every day of the year.
But you real Warriors fight today and rest your weary souls the rest of the year. I’ll rest today and along with the real Warriors I will humbly fight and give it my all, and be bashed, demonized, ostracized and imprisoned for fighting for change on every other day in every way the rest of the year. Don’t change the date. Change this country and our destiny. Don’t be fooled and don’t be gammon. Be real. We aren’t cockroaches to all scurry out in the open on this one day and be strong and proud. That’s proper gammon. Let’s truly honour our ancestors and maintain the rage. Wear the colours and march and fight everyday. Until then you will only be fooled by those who you were schooled and that’s the very same system you purport to oppose. Just my humble thoughts on this fine day.
