As a sports loving Aussie I love me football, league & AFL. And I’ve been hanging out for the start of the season. Sunday, I crack open a beer and switch on to Kayo so that I can watch both footy games that were being played for the start of the NRL. Well, all afternoon all I hear from the commentators is how great Las Vegas is, rugby league will never be the same after this monumental moment (apparently).

Then the commentators raved on about that this was just the beginning, it was a long term arrangement that would see some Australian NRL games played in the USA every year for at least the next 5 years. Well after about another hour of hearing how great Las Vegas is going be for Australian football, despite the fact that the pitch is 5 metres shorter and 5 metres narrower than Australian ones and the fact that Las Vegas is not just down the road or interstate, it’s a 16 hour flight.

I crack another one and start wondering to myself, what’s all this about? I know there are sponsorships and Fox Corporation is the main sponsor and I heard Murdoch is getting into the sports betting side of things too. That’s the financial side of it but then I’m thinking hang on, is this another way of tying Australia to the Yanks, using one of our national sports to promote USA and Australian friendship and cooperation?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with most Americans but why would we want anything to do with a country that’s promoting genocide through Israel in Gaza. This is by supplying Israel with the money and weapons to do so and vetoing every time in the United Nations resolutions for a ceasefire.

We have already basically handed the USA our sovereignty by allowing them to have military bases in Australia. They operate Pine Gap, we don’t even know what goes on inside as it’s American top secret.

We spend $360 billion for subs that we won’t even be able to operate or maybe only under USA supervision. Thousands more USA troops are to be stationed in Western Australia.

Anyway the games in Las Vegas were shit. Players had trouble adapting to the small pitches, stuffing the premier league up if you ask me.

Well I wasn’t sitting there watching it with my hat turned back to front with a can of coke and tortilla fries. No, no. A can of XXXX and a meat pie.

Roll on independence I say.
