Coronavirus first came to light in late December 2019 in Wuhan China. (New Scientist ) The Chinese government mustered its people and their intellectual and economic resources. Strong quarantine measures were initiated. Fighting the disease was put on almost a war footing. Medical workers worked extraordinary hours to help the sick. A temporary hospital for 1000 patients was built by 4000 people in six days. On CGTN a construction worker said: “When disaster strikes help comes from all sides. I am a Wuhan resident. It is my duty to protect my hometown.”
The tragic outbreak of disease became an opportunity for attacks on China. These concerned the origins of the disease and the methods for its control. But now just 3 months after the outbreak, China is getting back to work as the virus is rapidly contained. Many people have been inspired by this developing socialist country demonstrating, that it truly serves the people. This article from Xinhua shows how the Chinese people learnt from past experience.
