In February, 20,000 people defied the Minns state government laws that banned protests. The laws were enacted to prevent demonstrations against the visit of the Israeli president Herzog. In a massive rally outside the Sydney Town Hall people stood against riot police bashing and tear gas with 26 people arrested. Organisers and activists were harassed with dawn raids by police.

People mobilised and attended protests and court hearings. Groups mounted a legal challenge to the Minns laws in co-ordination with regular rallies. Finally amid the outcry ,in April the NSW Supreme Court struck down the laws.

Despite naked aggression of the state , people mobilised to resist. Now in Queensland people are fighting against the Cristafuli government laws that seek to ban the phrases-
